We began this whole experience gathering in Peace Hall at 5:15 am (or there abouts!) and waited patientl for the bus. Well, sort of! Pastor Dee gathered us in a circle with family and friends surrounding the trip participants for a send off prayer! Thanks Pastor Dee!
The bus was loaded and off close to 7 am and we With only one quick stop in Wausau, WI to stretch our legs and grab a bit to eat, we made it to Manitowoc, WI by 1 pm. Watching the buses, semi's, cars and motorcycles board the ferry was amazing - and made a few chaperones a bit nervous.
The boat ride was WINDY and it was a bit difficult to find our "sea legs", but with the help of a bingo caller with some bad jokes, a couple of decks of cards and some Farkle, we made it!
After landing in Ludington, MI at 7 pm (Eastern time) we were READY to be in Detroit, however there was quite a bit more driving to do! With one stop for food and another because the bus needed a break, we arrived safely at our hotel at 1 am.
THANKFULLY, this morning (Wednesday) was a day to sleep in and then enjoy the sights. Anders showed us the routes to the two venues we will be using on Friday and Saturday.
We also had time to explore the river walk, meet several people from all around the nation - as well as many fabulous Detroit natives who are so excited to welcome the Lutherans here. Be sure to ask students about the huge group of Motorcycle cops that we met this morning.
The gathering begins officially at 7:30 tonight with worship at Ford Field.
Students will begin to share their reflections later tonight and then each day after that.
Be sure to send comments - we love to see who is following us!
