Hey everybody!
Tonight's post is going to be very short. It is 10:00 here in NYC and everyone is going to bed because we are waking up at 4:00 to go stand in line for the Today Show! Be sure to look for us. We will be wearing our grey trip shirts and will have a poster or two.
Tonight our group had a great discussion about what it means to be ambassadors for Christ. Some kids received these little pamphlets exposing how one can get into heaven. This pamphlet's message was that we need to save ourselves.
As Lutherans we know that we are saved by grace and there is nothing we can do to get into heaven on our own accord.
The message about saving ourself promotes a culture of self improvement. Jesus taught a message of humble servanthood. "The first shall be last and the last shall be first."
As ambassadors of Christ, the kids on this trip are serving those often looked at as"last" in our culture.
If we were taught to save ourselves, we could carry that message to those in need, telling them to "help themselves" get out of poverty.
Praise God we have kids who take seriously this message of humble servanthood.
Please pray that we may continue being Christ Ambassadors on our day off tomorrow. But knowing these kids, there is not doubt in my mind that these kids have what it takes.
We will also take prayers for a refreshing night of sleep as we wake up at 4:00AM!
I will be back tomorrow with more guest bloggers. Until then, no mountain too talk and good luck to all.
