Service Projects
Friday's service projects went very well! My group was at an Episcopal Church. We were split into 2 groups: While 1 group was cleaning the beautiful sanctuary the other group was stuffing 5 food items into bags that were being handed out.
Our contact at the church was originally from Wisconsin and he knew about St. Cloud..but not much. He also thought I was 16 years old...but I can't blame him for that!

The Last Supper
Our entire group of 25 gathered in quite possibly the only restaurant in the city that could hold us (or wanted to hold us). We ate at Dallas BBQ.
The food was great and we all shared a toast to a great week.
When we left, we noticed a group of people gathering with their cameras and phones. They were taking a picture of the "Manhattanhenge", a phenomenon that only happens twice a year. This is when the sun sets directly between the buildings on Manhattan (see photo below).
After watching the sunset most of us went to Central Park to hear the New York Philharmonic play a free concert. There were over 50,000 people gathered to hear them play!

The Trip Home
Marsh prepared another wonderful breakfast for our group. He then told us more about the ministry of Seafarers and how we supported that ministry by lodging there. He then lead our weary group to JFK.
After working so closely with him it was sad to say goodbye.
I love the picture below. It it is a great representation of our trip. In the background you can see the busy city full of life and work to be done. We are leaving our home for the past week to return to our family and friends.
For us, the grass is greener on this side. We have nice homes and we don't see the people in need as frequently as we did there. But on the other side of the fence are the homes of all those people we served. And because of the hard work that the students did, maybe the grass is a little greener on their side too.
Our hard work will not be forgotten. Yes, there will be another group coming to do service work but they will build off of the work we did. The people we helped who are receiving a warm meal or stocking their pantries with healthy food will be so grateful. They may not remember you, but they will never forget the work you did.
