After a brief rest the group set out for St Peter's Lutheran Church for a 5 pm Jazz Vespers service. (www.saintpeters.org) What a terrific way to begin our journey. The music was amazing and the message was meaningful. We took our first group photo and were then asked by a VERY polite NYC police officer to "move it along, please. I'm so sorry, but you really can't just sit here...") Okay then.
We were off on a tour of the area ending up in Time's Square. Our trip shirts came in handy as we could easily see those red hearts on the backs of all the students!
One of the photos below is of a street art project that we happened upon. Someone had painted their entire car with chalk board paint and invited anyone to add their chalk graffiti... so we did!
And then we found ourselves in a SEA of people. I have traveled to many places and have lived in some pretty big cities - but I personally have never seen that many people in one place before. Ever.
At our evening devotions we reflected on the fact that God has created each and every one of those people - people of all different sizes, colors, languages and experiences. God knows them inside and out- and loves each one, enough to send His Son to be the Savior for each and every one. We reflected on that thought as we prepared for our first day of service - all of those whom we will serve tomorrow are loved by God beyond our ability to understand. Our prayer is that God's love would shine through our words and actions all week!
We are working on memorizing Micah 6:8 - perhaps you would want to join us in this!
God has shown you Oh people, what is good! And what does the Lord require of you? But to do justice, to love kindness and to walk humbly with our God!
Good night all! Until tomorrow!
